About the Saemangeum Project

By constructing the world's longest seawall (33.9㎢) connecting Gunsan and Buan, reclaimed land (291㎢) and a lake (118㎢) were created. Developing 3.3㎢ of Old Gunsan Island and 4.9㎢ of New Port outside the seawall. encompassing economy, business, and tourism This is a national project to build a “global luxury Saemangeum” that will emerge as the economic center of Northeast Asia.

Expected Population

Upon completion of development, the total population will be 706,000, and the Saemangeum project area accommodate 269,000 people.

Saemangeum, a gateway to a new civilzation

The Saemangeum Project is the largest land reclamation project in the history of Korea aimed at connecting Buan-gun and Gunsan-si to build the world’s longest seawall stretching 33.9km and creating a total of 40,900ha (409㎢) of new land, including 29,100ha of land and 11,800ha of freshwater lakes. This is equivalent to two-thirds the size of Seoul or four times the size of Paris, and is enough to distribute approximately 9.9㎡ to each Korean citizen.
